We also perform various diagnostic procedures, such as blood smear tests, myelograms and bone marrow aspirations, osteomyelic biopsies and puncture biopsies of peripheral lymph nodes. Osteomyelic biopsies can also be performed under sedation. Many patients are treated and then have\u00a0 a follow up appointments at the Outpatient Hematology Clinic.<\/li>\n<li>Blood product transfusions and short duration immunochemotherapies are performed at the <strong>One Day Care (O.D.C.) Clinic<\/strong> by appointment to ensure maximum treatment efficacy and patient safety.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hospitalization is necessary<\/strong> if a patient needs to follow an intensive therapeutic plan (i.e. more than 24 hours) or for successful treatment of any complications due to his\/ her condition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The medical and nursing staff at the Hematology Dpt. of Mediterraneo Hospital follow the latest international protocols used in clinical practice for cytostatic drug administration and immunotherapies.<\/p>\n<p>At the Hematology Department of Mediterraneo Hospital, the following hematologic disorders\/ diseases are monitored and treated:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Benign<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Iron or B12 deficiency anemia, megaloblastic anemia, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, immune thrombocytopenic purpura, leukopenia<\/li>\n<li>Polycythemia vera, thrombocytosis, leukocytosis, eosinophilia<\/li>\n<li>Haemorrhagic diathesis<\/li>\n<li>Thrombophilia (thrombotic events, thrombosis and pregnancy, thrombosis in chronic diseases)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Malignant<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Myeloproliferative neoplasms (Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), also known as chronic myeloid leukemia, polycythemia vera, essential thrombocytosis, myelofibrosis, mastocytosis, eosinophilic neoplasms)<\/li>\n<li>Acute leukemia (non-candidates for allogeneic stem cell transplantation)<\/li>\n<li>Lymphoproliferative disorders (LPDs): <strong>chronic lymphoid leukemia<\/strong>, <strong>lymphomas <\/strong>(leukemic, splenic, nodal, extranodal, Non-Hodgkin, Hodgkin) <strong>plasma cell neoplasms<\/strong> (multiple myeloma, plasmacytoma, amyloidosis)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n[\/vc_column_text][divider line_type=&#8221;No Line&#8221;
